Russia set a record for oil exports to Georgia, reaching $70 million in March
In March, Russia became the leading supplier of oil products to Georgia, providing 42.5% of total imports in this sector. Experts note that this is a historical maximum since 2009.
According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, in March, the supply of oil products from Russia reached $69.2 million, the highest figure since the start of keeping statistics in 2009. This is almost twice as much as in the previous month, when exports amounted to $34.1 million. The increase occurred against the backdrop of a general rise in the demand of Georgian refineries for raw materials.
Export supplies from Russia appear to be irregular, as in 2025, Russian oil was supplied only for four months. A similar situation was observed in the previous year. However, in March 2023, there was a significant spike in imports, likely driven by an increase in industrial demand.
Turkey ranked second among suppliers of oil products to Georgia with a share of 13.5%, followed by Bulgaria (11.3%), Belgium (7.5%), and Azerbaijan (5.7%). Information that the refinery in the port of Kulevi does not process Russian oil remains relevant. This fact underscores the market’s dependence on various supply sources.
Experts note that the increase in Russia’s share in the Georgian oil products market may have various consequences for the country’s energy market, considering the potential risks of dependence on a single large supplier.
