Ask YouTube: Google is testing search capabilities using artificial intelligence on the YouTube platform

Google is testing a new AI-powered search format on YouTube for subscribers

Google has started testing a new search format on YouTube that uses artificial intelligence to generate responses. The feature, called Ask YouTube, is available in beta for YouTube Premium subscribers in the US.

According to The Verge, the new tool allows users to make queries in a conversational format. In response, the system generates a page containing a brief text explanation, a selection of videos, Shorts, and thematic recommendations. The Ask YouTube button appears in the search bar, offering query examples or opening a page for entering personal questions. Users receive not only video content but also detailed explanations through text.

The feature is currently available for YouTube Premium subscribers who are at least 18 years old. Using the Ask YouTube feature allows users to dive deeper into a topic through videos with specific timestamps and recommended materials for further study. However, testing has revealed some inaccuracies in the responses that AI sometimes generates, so it is advisable to verify the information.

Google announces plans to expand the availability of the feature to all YouTube users, including those without a premium subscription. This testing is part of a broader Google initiative to integrate AI into YouTube, which began in 2026 with the “Personalized Intelligence” in the Gemini app for Ukrainian users.
