Attack on railway infrastructure in Ukraine leads to changes in train traffic
On the night of February 22, the Russian army attacked railway infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine, leading to changes in train traffic, as warned by “Ukrzaliznytsia”. Despite the difficult situation, train traffic was not completely stopped.
Railway facilities in Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions were hit. Repair crews are currently working to restore the normal functioning of the infrastructure. In the Kyiv region, trains are operating on altered routes, which may lead to schedule delays. In the Kherson region, train traffic is organized with safety measures in mind, while monitoring groups operate in enhanced mode.
In the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, trains temporarily operate to and from Konotop, while adapted schedules of suburban services are in effect toward Nizhyn. In the Kharkiv region, regional express trains of the Izyum direction follow the schedule, and in the Donetsk region, towards Kramatorsk, passengers are transported by buses. Between Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro, bus transportation has been primarily organized as well.
Overall, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, firing about fifty missiles and nearly three hundred drones. Impacts were recorded in 14 locations. Among other targets, in the Sumy region, a missile hit a factory of the American company “Mondelez”, which produces sweets such as Milka, Korona, Oreo, and other snacks.
This attack is part of a broader military campaign by Russia against Ukraine, which has long raised concerns in the international community. Experts warn that the situation could lead to further escalation of the conflict and a humanitarian crisis in the region.
