The Deputy Minister of Education urges to strengthen the positions of the Ukrainian language in schools
Instead of a complete ban on the Russian language in the educational process, the state’s strategy should be aimed at developing the Ukrainian language as the main language of instruction. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nadiya Kuzmicheva in an interview.
Kuzmicheva noted that a full ban on the Russian language in schools could lead to undesirable consequences and social division. Instead, she proposes to enhance the integration of the Ukrainian language in the educational environment, ensuring support and a confident transition for students to the Ukrainian language. According to her, such a solution contributes to the strengthening of democratic values and prevents the development of authoritarian methods of governance.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the use of the Ukrainian language is not only a matter of education but also an important aspect of statehood and security. In her conviction, the modern school should create conditions for the natural perception and use of the Ukrainian language among children through clear rules and support.
Nadiya Kuzmicheva also noted that the state’s strategy should provide a comfortable environment for living, development, and communication of the new generation in the Ukrainian language. Earlier, Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi said that the negative attitude towards the Russian language is a consequence of an appropriate understanding of causal links, which highlights the importance of education for adults.
