Sergiy Deineko appointed to a new position in the State Border Service after dismissal
The former head of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Sergiy Deineko, who is suspected of corruption, has been mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointed to a new managerial position.
Sergiy Deineko’s appointment as the head of the Luhansk Border Detachment, which has been reorganized into the “Revenge” brigade, was confirmed by the DPSU representative Andriy Demchenko. This occurred based on mobilization, considering his previous military experience. Demchenko noted that the circumstances of the dismissal in February 2023 did not become an obstacle for Deineko’s return to service duties under the law “On Military Service”.
The “Revenge” unit, which includes the “Phoenix” detachment, has achieved significant accomplishments in combat operations, particularly in inflicting casualties on enemy personnel and receiving commendations. Data provided by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov indicate substantial successes of the brigade on the battlefield.
The context of the corruption investigation against Deineko remains relevant. He is suspected of facilitating cigarette smuggling to the European Union along with other former DPSU officials. According to the Criminal Procedure Code, judicial proceedings may be suspended in the event of the suspect’s mobilization.
According to NABU, a similar contract with the Armed Forces was signed by the former head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration and Mukachevo District Administration, Sergiy Haidai, who is also a suspect in a corruption case regarding the procurement of drones.
