In the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, an acting rector has been appointed after the contract with Mykhailo Poplavskyi expired. The new temporary leader is Ihor Komarnytskyi, as stated in the decree signed by the Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi.
According to the document, Komarnytskyi, a professor of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Business, will perform the duties of the rector until a new leader is officially appointed. This decision was made in light of the completion of Mykhailo Poplavskyi’s contract, who headed the university for over 30 years. The Ministry of Education confirmed this information, emphasizing that a change in leadership positions is part of a healthy practice of refreshing management staff.
Oksen Lisovyi noted on social media that such prolonged uninterrupted leadership of the institution raised questions about management ethics. Despite possible legal conditions for extending Poplavskyi’s work, the minister believes it is time to appoint a new leader who will meet modern standards of ethics and transparency.
It is worth recalling that Mykhailo Poplavskyi has often found himself at the center of scandals, combining work in education with political and show-business activities. In particular, his music videos and projects involving female students were criticized by the public as inappropriate for a higher education institution leader.
