Google introduces change of Gmail address without data loss
Google announced a new feature for Gmail users to change their email address while preserving all previous data and access to the company’s services.
According to the updated support information, users can change their primary address to another one, after which the previous address automatically becomes an alternative. This allows receiving emails to both the new and old email addresses. Users can log into Google services such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Google Play, or Drive using any of these addresses.
All previously saved data, including photos, messages, and emails, remain unchanged. However, there are time constraints: after changing the address, you cannot create a new or delete the current new address for 12 months. One Gmail account can change the address no more than three times for the entire duration of the account.
The company warns that the old address might still appear in already scheduled Google Calendar events. The implementation of this feature has already begun and will be gradual.
This news provides users with greater flexibility in managing their email, which can be particularly useful when changing names or brands or in need of a new professional email address. Analysts believe that such changes could positively impact Google’s image as a company that cares about the convenience of its services.
