Ukraine has confirmed the use of the new ballistic missile “Sapsan”.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the country has begun using the ballistic missiles “Sapsan”. This marks a new phase in Ukraine’s missile program.
During a media session, Zelensky noted that Ukraine is using not only “Neptunes” but also other missiles, including “Sapsan”. The President emphasized that the quantity and details of their usage remain confidential for security reasons. According to Zelensky, the Russians sometimes confuse “Sapsan” strikes with “Neptune” strikes, which adds to the strategic uncertainty.
Analysts believe that ballistic weaponry is critically important for Ukraine, as it has a higher potential to circumvent Russian air defense systems compared to cruise missiles. According to expert Badrak, the missile program has already shown its effectiveness: in May 2025, “Sapsan” successfully destroyed a Russian military target at a distance of nearly 300 km.
Since 2025, the serial production of “Sapsan” has begun, as confirmed by the authorities. This demonstrates Ukraine’s increased capability to defend its territory and strengthen its military potential.
| Missile | Type | Range (km) |
|---|---|---|
| Sapsan | Ballistic | 300 |
| Neptune | Cruise | 280 |
