US Special Representative: Control over the Donetsk region and the ZNPP remains key
The National Defense Forum in the United States became a platform for discussing important aspects of a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Key issues remain control over the Donetsk region and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Keith Kellogg, the US President’s special representative, emphasized that the negotiation process has reached the final stage. However, the main sticking points remain the issues related to the Donetsk region and the ZNPP. “If you’re in the military, you know that the last ’10 meters’ are the most difficult,” he said, commenting on the end of the conflict.
Kellogg noted that resolving this “unprecedented war” is proving difficult. As an example, he cited Afghanistan, where Russia lost 18,000 soldiers, and Vietnam, from which the United States withdrew after losing 58,000 soldiers. He added that Ukraine and Russia together have already lost over 2 million people, highlighting the need to end the conflict.
Earlier, the commander of the Ukrainian forces, Syrovatka, stated that Russia is using negotiations to capture new territories. At the same time, on December 6, President Zelensky and the Ukrainian delegation held new talks with the United States regarding further steps, seeking a resolution to the Donbas issue.
