Ukrainian soldier was shot during surrender in Donetsk region
In the Donetsk region, Russian soldiers shot a Ukrainian soldier who was attempting to surrender. An investigation into a war crime has been launched.
The incident occurred in December 2025 near the village of Svyato-Pokrovske in the Bakhmut district. According to the investigation, during the clearing of the outskirts of the captured village, Russian soldiers discovered a Ukrainian defender in a partially destroyed house. The soldier emerged with raised hands, indicating his willingness to surrender, but the Russian soldiers, hiding behind the house, opened fire on him. After this, the wounded Ukrainian was finished off by another shot from automatic weapons.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the event as a war crime. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the Russian soldier involved in the murder. The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasizes that such actions are a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions on the protection of prisoners of war and entail responsibility under international law.
It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, on November 27, it became known about the killing of five prisoners in the vicinity of Huliaipole in the Zaporizhzhia region. The next day, it was reported about the beating and shooting of a captured soldier near the village of Hnativka near Pokrovsk.
