The European Union budget for 2026 has been approved at 192.8 billion euros.
The Council of the EU has officially approved the EU budget for 2026 with a total expenditure of 192.8 billion euros. This decision includes allocations for key priorities such as defense, migration, and competitiveness.
The total commitments under the 2026 budget amount to 192.8 billion euros, while the payment amount will be 190.1 billion euros. A reserve of 715.7 million euros will be allocated for unforeseen circumstances. Nicolai Wammen, Denmark’s finance minister, stated that the budget allows for decisive responses to the needs of European citizens while maintaining the flexibility necessary to cope with unfolding crises.
The final approval of the budget will occur after its adoption by the European Parliament, expected on November 26. Among the new initiatives is the consideration of joint financing to support Ukraine. Such a move may become necessary if the plan to transfer frozen Russian assets is blocked.
