Moldova expressed a protest to Russia over an incident with a drone that violated its airspace.
The Russian Embassy in Chisinau received a note of protest from Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the violation of the country’s airspace by a drone that occurred on the night of November 19. Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov denied Moscow’s involvement in this incident.
On November 20, Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, where he received an official note of protest regarding the flight of the drone over the country’s territory. In the statement from Moldova’s MFA, it was noted that such an incident is a serious violation of national sovereignty and also poses a threat to the safety of citizens and stability in the region.
Oleg Ozerov, in turn, stated that there is no evidence that the drone was of Russian manufacturing and expressed indignation at the decision to summon a representative from Russia rather than from Ukraine. According to him, the drone entered Moldova’s territory from Ukraine, however, this has not been confirmed as an intentional violation.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a massive attack on Ukraine, carried out by the forces of the Russian Federation, during which 48 missiles and over 470 drones were launched. The airspace violation was confirmed by the military of Romania and Moldova.
