Zelensky to Meet with Trump at the White House on October 17
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to meet with American leader Donald Trump on October 17 at the White House. The talks are expected to potentially contribute to ending the war in Ukraine.
In his evening address, Zelensky mentioned that the main aspects of the meeting, including military and economic issues, have already been agreed upon. According to the president, the agenda will be extensive, and the U.S., as a global power, can significantly impact the situation in Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized the importance of international support, highlighting Ukraine’s desire for the world to be on its side.
The Financial Times reports that among the key topics of the talks will be discussions on ways to get Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table. The organization of the visit became possible after two phone conversations between Zelensky and Trump, during which long-range strikes on Russia and the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine were also discussed.
On October 13, a Ukrainian delegation departed for the United States for a week of negotiations in Washington, focusing mainly on strengthening Ukraine’s strike capabilities. On October 14, Donald Trump confirmed his desire to meet with Zelensky.
