The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, is in Kyiv on his first official visit, marked by the signing of a new agreement with Ukraine on the production of maritime drones.
On December 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Portugal Luís Montenegro signed a joint statement on partnership in the field of maritime drone production. This collaboration aims to strengthen the defense potential of both countries and is an important step in modern military work. Zelensky emphasized the importance of this direction and noted that drones are an effective means of protection, especially in light of current geopolitical threats.
During the briefing, Prime Minister Montenegro expressed Portugal’s readiness for active involvement in this project, adding that both countries are eager to utilize each other’s scientific achievements for mutual benefit. He also mentioned further steps, which include the exchange of experience and knowledge.
Additionally, President Zelensky thanked Portugal for its support in other military initiatives, such as participating in the US weapons purchase program for Ukraine and approving a €90 billion loan for the next two years.
It should be noted that already on December 19, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced a meeting with an American delegation, where the first official tests of Ukrainian maritime drones were conducted.
