Zelensky: The US peace plan provides for a ceasefire
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the US peace plan includes a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine as part of a 20-point document. This was discussed before the summit in Berlin, where meetings with the participation of American and European representatives are set to take place.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of such meetings, noting that a ceasefire is a necessary step for improving security across all of Ukraine’s territory. Previously, the Ukrainian leader mentioned that the American side indicates a complete ceasefire only after the signing of a framework agreement.
The president also responded to questions about a possible change in Kyiv’s position. He stressed that legally binding security guarantees, similar to Article 5 of NATO, are needed at this stage to prevent another aggression from Russia.
The meeting in Berlin reportedly began with the participation of US special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as other important representatives of the international community. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz briefly greeted the participants and left the negotiations, leaving the moderation to his advisor.
Before the summit, Zelensky also commented on the potential withdrawal of the Armed Forces from Donbas, proposed as part of the peace plan. He described this proposal as unjust, urging Russia to take similar actions.
