Three years after de-occupation: how Kherson lives under constant shelling
It has been three years since the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kherson from Russian occupiers. Despite constant shelling, about 60 thousand residents remain to live and work in challenging conditions.
Kherson, the only regional center occupied by the Russian army at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, became a symbol of resistance. During the occupation, city residents organized rallies under the threat of weapons. A year after liberation, they once again hoisted Ukrainian flags on Freedom Square.
The city is still on the frontline: on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River are Russian troops. Kherson residents try to maintain life in the city, raise children, and repair homes after yet another shelling. Significant support is provided by those who were forced to leave but maintain a connection with their native city.
The significance of Kherson as a symbol of resistance and a stronghold of peaceful life grows each day. The city continues to hold on thanks to the efforts of its residents and external support, demonstrating willpower and patriotism. Kherson remains an important political and strategic stronghold in the struggle for Ukraine’s freedom and independence.
