The SSU prevented a DNR militant from fleeing to the European Union with a Ukrainian passport
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained a militant of the terrorist organization “DNR,” who planned to escape from Ukraine with a Ukrainian passport for subsequent relocation to the European Union.
According to the SSU, the suspect, a resident of the temporarily occupied Donetsk, joined the Russian-controlled formation “Somali” in 2015 and participated in the battles for the Donetsk airport, where he was wounded. At the end of October 2025, he traveled to western Ukraine as an internally displaced person to obtain a passport and move to the EU.
SSU counterintelligence officers discovered and detained him in one of the hotels in Kovel, Volyn region, at the stage of preparation for escape. During searches in the hotel room, Russian and DNR passports, a “military ID,” and chevrons of the armed formations of the aggressor state were found.
The SSU is also investigating the possibility that the detainee might belong to Russian intelligence services, which could have planned his “mission” for subversive activities in the EU.
The detainee has been charged with articles related to treason under martial law and participation in the activities of illegal armed formations. He has been arrested without bail and faces up to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
