Law enforcement of Ukraine investigates the murder of captive defenders in the Zaporizhzhia region
In the Zaporizhzhia region, five Ukrainian defenders who were held captive by Russian forces died. The prosecution has begun an investigation into this war crime.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that the incident occurred on November 27 in the Huliaipole direction. According to the prosecution, the captive defenders were cold-bloodedly shot, which violates the Geneva Conventions. Law enforcement of the Zaporizhzhia region has started an investigation, with a possible punishment for those responsible being life imprisonment.
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating to establish all the circumstances. The analytical project Deepstate also published information that the defenders were captured in a forest area, where they were executed after interrogation.
Russian military personnel were previously accused of similar crimes in this direction, including the shooting of two captives near Huliaipole, where there was an advance of Russian troops.
The Ministry of Justice and Law of Ukraine emphasizes that such actions constitute a gross violation of international law and are a source of significant consequences for regional security.
