Zelensky criticized Orban for political manipulation regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky accused Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of using Ukraine’s accession to the European Union for political purposes, which, according to the Ukrainian leader, harms both nations.
During a conversation with journalists, Zelensky noted that Orban understands the importance of Ukraine’s EU membership as a security guarantee but chooses to use this topic in his election campaign. The President of Ukraine expressed regret that Orban’s personal ambitions harm the friendly relations between Ukrainians and Hungarians.
Zelensky added that this position of the Hungarian leader is also reflected in the country’s refusal to join the new aid to Ukraine, which was agreed upon by the EU in the amount of 90 billion euros. These funds will be provided over two years, but without the participation of the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia.
According to Zelensky, even former US President Donald Trump considers Ukraine’s European integration an important factor for security and economic stability. Although Trump does not always openly support such a policy, he understands its significance for Ukraine.
Zelensky is confident that despite the current challenges, Ukraine will continue its path to European integration. He expressed optimism, noting that there should be no obstacles on Ukraine’s path.
