Finnish Minister Elina Valtonen criticized the US peace plan regarding Ukraine
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed concern about the peace plan proposed by the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, pointing out the unacceptability of its terms for Ukraine and European partners.
In an interview with the Finnish broadcaster Yle, Valtonen emphasized that the cautious attitude towards the plan is due to the conditions that, according to her, not only do not reflect Ukraine’s interests but also violate the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. She hinted that the document was likely drafted considering Moscow’s interests.
The minister also noted that Finland and other European countries continue to strive for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, having been working on this issue for four years. She highlighted proposals addressed to Russia regarding a ceasefire, which Ukraine was ready to accept but which left Russia without a positive response or willingness to compromise.
According to Elina Valtonen, the distance to the possibility of concluding a peace agreement is still quite significant, but it is important to continue supporting Ukraine with both defense equipment and sanctions against Russia.
