Germany and the Netherlands have signed a contract for the delivery of 222 Schakal combat vehicles
Germany and the Netherlands have signed an agreement for the supply of 222 Jackal infantry fighting vehicles worth €3.4 billion. This contract aims to strengthen the defense capabilities of both countries.
The contract stipulates that Germany will receive 150 units, while the Netherlands will receive 72. The Schakal combat vehicles, developed on the Boxer chassis, are the result of a collaboration between Rheinmetall and KNDS Germany within the Artec joint venture. Rheinmetall’s total share in the agreement amounts to approximately €3 billion.
According to OCCAR, the European agency responsible for the contract implementation, the achieved agreement will increase the total investment in the Boxer platform to €10 billion. In addition to basic infantry vehicles, other versions, such as bridge-laying and self-propelled howitzers, are also being developed on this platform.
Previously, Rheinmetall reported aiding Ukraine by supplying new Skyranger 35 air defense systems mounted on the Leopard 1 tank. This move demonstrates the growing importance of military cooperation amidst geopolitical changes.
| Country | Number of vehicles | Deal value (€ billion) |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | 150 | ~2.3 |
| Netherlands | 72 | ~1.1 |
Analysts note that this agreement could enhance Europe’s defense capabilities and affect the stability of the region. Well-organized cooperation between countries shows how joint projects can contribute to strengthening military capabilities.
