Chief of the General Staff responded to accusations of “Soviet mentality” in the Armed Forces: many factors influence inefficiency

Andriy Hnatov responded to criticism of returning to Soviet practices in the Armed Forces

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Hnatov, commented on concerns about a possible return to Soviet practices in Ukraine’s military management.

In an interview for LIGA.net, Hnatov noted that the efficiency of officials in the Armed Forces cannot always be at the maximum level as it depends on many factors. Military observers have expressed concerns regarding a return to a strict vertical management structure and the support of loyal but not always effective commanders. Hnatov emphasized that people from civilian life, who only recently joined the military structure, are working on the battlefield.

He also added that although there are different commanders, the overall result is positive as the front line is held, the enemy suffers losses, and tasks are completed. Additionally, in the context of the interview, he clarified that the issue of reducing the number of Ukrainian forces was not discussed in the negotiations in Geneva. Hnatov also shared his thoughts on ending the war, noting that a just peace is possible no earlier than the end of 2025, although a ceasefire may be achieved in shorter terms.

According to Hnatov, Moscow is conducting a powerful information-psychological operation aimed against Ukrainian society, focusing on peace negotiations.
