Russia tries to shoot down Ukrainian planes and helicopters with “Shaheds.”

Russia changes tactics: kamikaze drones attack Ukraine’s aviation

Russia has started using Shahed drones to attack Ukraine’s aircraft and helicopters. This was confirmed by Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Yuriy Myronenko.

According to Myronenko, the Russian army is testing new modifications of drones that are controlled in real-time. Control antennas are located in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as in Russia and Belarus near the frontline. This approach creates new challenges for Ukraine’s air defense, as operators can instantly react to changes in situations and attempt to shoot down Ukrainian aircraft or helicopters in the air.

Ukraine heavily relies on combat aviation to destroy Russian drones. According to experts, this Moscow tactic aims to weaken Ukrainian air defense. However, according to Myronenko, Ukraine is capable of quickly addressing the threat of new Russian weaponry, although details of countermeasures remain under wraps until the enemy loses its advantage.

Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine released information about the construction of the new Iranian Shahed-107 drone, which Russia uses to carry out attacks on Ukraine’s front-line regions. It is known that its development began at the beginning of 2024.
