Russia’s online retail market could lose around 400 million orders and 400 billion rubles in revenue by the end of 2026 due to drone attacks on the warehouse infrastructure of major marketplaces. The Moscow Times reports.
Fyodor Virin, founder of the analytics company Data Insight, said that experts had revised down their forecast for growth in Russia’s online retail market by 20%.
According to the new estimate, the market volume in 2026 will amount to about 9.6 billion orders, instead of the previously forecast 10 billion. Sales volume could reach 15 trillion rubles, while the previous forecast projected 15.4 trillion rubles.
According to Virin, the forecast revision is linked to the consequences of attacks on marketplace warehouse infrastructure. The bulk of the projected losses, in his assessment, will fall on Wildberries.
Strikes on Wildberries warehouses began on July 18, according to the report, while attacks on Ozon facilities began on August 25. After that, some goods became unavailable to buyers in certain cities, and delivery times increased.
Losses for the book industry
Russian publishers, according to the data cited, lost around 15 million books as a result of drone strikes on the warehouses of the Wildberries and Ozon marketplaces.
Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development has preliminarily estimated losses to the book industry at 6 billion rubles.
