Meta teams up with BirdyChat and Haiket for integration with WhatsApp in the EU
Meta announced the possibility of integrating BirdyChat and Haiket with WhatsApp in the European Union. This decision complies with the EU Digital Markets Act, which has been in force since 2023.
The new capabilities will allow users to exchange messages, images, voice messages, videos, and files between WhatsApp, BirdyChat, and Haiket regardless of the operating system they use. WhatsApp users are expected to receive corresponding notifications in the “Settings” tab in the coming months when the feature becomes available. They will be able to independently enable or disable the new option.
While the integration will provide personal message exchanges, the possibility of creating group chats across different platforms will not be available initially. This feature is expected to appear later when Meta’s partners are ready to support it. Meta also announced that it will continue to work on WhatsApp’s compatibility with other applications, as part of the Digital Markets Act requirements.
The integration with BirdyChat and Haiket will be implemented across Europe, with small test trials conducted beforehand. This step is aimed at reducing communication barriers between different platforms, which can expand user capabilities and enhance the convenience of information exchange.
