Attempts at illegal border crossing from Ukraine in October were halved.
During October 2023, the number of illegal border crossing attempts from Ukraine decreased almost by half compared to August, reported State Border Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko. Despite this trend, attempts at illegal border crossing continue daily.
According to Demchenko, the peak of illegal border crossings was in August, and no increase is observed in November. However, border guards identify about 30 criminal groups per month attempting various methods to smuggle people across the border. Demchenko also reported the installation of concrete barriers in Zakarpattia to prevent illegal vehicle breakthroughs.
The Telegraph, citing Polish border guards, noted that almost 100,000 people aged 18-22 crossed Ukraine’s borders within two months. However, the State Border Service emphasizes that this is only a small part of the total outflow of citizens from Ukraine.
Reduction in the number of illegal border crossings indicates some stabilization in this matter, but the continuous detection of new smuggling schemes shows that the issue is far from resolved. Many experts point to the need for enhanced border security measures and closer cooperation with neighboring countries.
| Month | Number of Illegal Crossings |
