The President of Poland: Warsaw will not prioritize Ukrainian interests over its own
The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, stated that his country does not intend to prioritize Ukrainian interests over its own, emphasizing the need for symmetry in relations between the two countries. He underscored that Poland will continue to assist Ukraine but will uphold its position on important issues.
Nawrocki said in an interview with the Wpolsce24 channel that the relations between Poland and Ukraine should remain partnership-based and balanced. He stressed the importance of maintaining equilibrium between the interests of both countries and assured that Polish interests should not be perceived as something that must ensure the fulfillment of all Ukrainian demands.
“Poland has helped and continues to help Ukraine, but it cannot be a hostage to any state,” the president emphasized. He also noted that, if other leaders, such as Volodymyr Zelensky, expect him to isolate Polish interests, they will be surprised by his determination.
These statements were made against the backdrop of Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement on June 28 about Ukraine’s intention to strengthen relations with the new Polish government, while a planned meeting between the presidents has yet to take place.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| June 28 | Volodymyr Zelensky announced the intention to strengthen relations with Poland |
| July 1 | Karol Nawrocki announced a future meeting with Zelensky |
| July 27 | The Ukrainian ambassador announced the preparation of Nawrocki’s visit |

Analysts note that Nawrocki’s statements may be part of a broader policy of Poland to maintain its independence in international relations, finding a balance between the need to support Ukraine and protecting its own national interests. What this means for the relations between the countries in the future, time will tell.
