As a result of explosions in the territory of Starobesheve, Donetsk region, which is temporarily under the control of Russian forces, a local heating supply enterprise may have suffered damage. According to reports, the incident caused power supply issues in the region.
The explosions that occurred on November 11 might have affected the Starobesheve thermal power plant, whose capacity is about 2.3 GW. The station is located in the village of Novi Svit, Starobesheve district, and is one of the main power plants for the occupied part of Donetsk, reports the Telegram channel Exilenova+. Despite the significance of the event, both sides of the conflict have so far refrained from making official comments regarding the explosions and potential damage to the power plant.
In addition, voltage spikes and power supply interruptions were recorded throughout the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region. The incident adds to recent events in Russian territory, where on November 8 in Belgorod and the region, over 20,000 facilities were left without electricity, and on the night of November 9, power supply and heating issues were also observed in Voronezh.
The probable incident with the Starobesheve thermal power plant once again underscores the tense situation in the region and could have serious implications for the region’s energy security. Experts believe that each such attack further complicates the reconstruction and stabilization of energy supply in the temporarily occupied territories.
