A policeman was detained with millions of hryvnias in a forest camp
The head of the Darnytskyi Police Department, Yuriy Rybyansky, was detained in the forest of the Rivne region while hiding with 13.3 million hryvnias of evidence. He has been charged with embezzling someone else’s property in especially large amounts.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Rybyansky left millions, converted into dollars, euros, and hryvnias, without proper storage in the office, even though he was supposed to transfer them to the bank. Kyiv police announced his search on November 6, and on the same day, he was found in an equipped tent camp. To live in the forest, the policeman purchased a minibus, a charging station, and food supplies with equipment.
During the search, more than 12.6 million hryvnias in foreign currency were seized from Rybyansky. The investigation is currently determining the whereabouts of the remaining funds. The law enforcement officer may face up to 12 years in prison. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint in the form of custody is being considered. The event has caused a public outcry and raises questions about trust in law enforcement agencies.
