Three Russian occupiers are suspected of violence against a resident of Melitopol
The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine and the National Police have charged three Russian occupiers in a case concerning the mistreatment of a local resident of Melitopol. The suspects demanded that she confess to cooperating with Ukrainian military.
Among the suspects are two Ukrainians who voluntarily worked for the occupiers in the so-called security service of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region. The third suspect is Russian Major Alexander Kirilov, who served at the 4th Guards Military Base as part of the Southern Military District. The investigation revealed that the suspects detained the woman in November-December 2022, after which she was subjected to torture and abuse.
According to the victim, she was held in custody at a police station, where she was threatened with death. Eventually, she was transferred to a private house, where she was abused for three days. After the territories were liberated, the woman approached law enforcement, who began an investigation into the facts of mistreatment of civilians.
This case is part of a broader issue of war crimes, including violence and threats to the lives of civilians in occupied territories. Similarly, earlier this year, two occupiers received in absentia sentences of 12 years for the rape of a pregnant woman in the Kyiv region.
