Ukraine neutralizes Russian missile system on Russian territory
Ukrainian security forces have destroyed the Russian missile system “Oreshnik” on Russian territory, depriving the occupiers of the opportunity for another strike.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Russian military had the capability to conduct three launches from the “Oreshnik” system, one of which had already been directed at Ukraine. This was reported by Vasyl Maliuk, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, during a meeting broadcasted by Public Television.
One of these systems was destroyed in the summer of 2023 on Russian territory, in the Kapustin Yar area, through the joint efforts of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the Foreign Intelligence Service. The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleh Ivashchenko, noted that as of now, Russia has only one possible launch remaining.
This development underscores the tension between Ukraine and Russia and indicates the active actions of Ukrainian special services in countering Russia’s military potential. The destruction of strategic weaponry on enemy territory can be of significant importance for Ukraine’s security and could change the balance of power in the region.
| System | Number of Launches | Destroyed | Remaining |
