Ukrainian President Zelensky Calls for Ceasefire Before Peace Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky supported the stance of former U.S. President Donald Trump on the necessity of halting military actions before commencing peace talks, emphasizing the importance of ending the war under the current circumstances.
Speaking at a briefing after a meeting at the White House, Zelensky stated that Ukraine must halt where it currently stands and agreed with Trump’s position on both sides suspending hostilities. However, Zelensky stressed that the key issue lies with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as it was Russia that started this war.
Zelensky noted that the question of Ukraine’s territorial integrity remains the most challenging issue in the negotiations. The Ukrainian side demands that a ceasefire be implemented before the start of peace dialogue. According to Zelensky, this would be an important first step in the process of peacefully resolving the conflict.
During the meeting at the White House, Trump also emphasized the need to stop the violence and reach a peace agreement. The issue of supplying Tomahawk missiles was discussed; however, according to Axios, the U.S. currently does not plan to provide them to Ukraine.
| President’s Stance | Main Points |
|---|---|
| Ceasefire | Start of peace talks only after halting hostilities |
