Kyrgyzstan is facing a shortage of high-octane gasoline due to limited supplies from Russia, which has started addressing its own fuel crisis and a seasonal increase in demand.
Dependence on imports of petroleum products, especially from Russia, has resulted in a shortage of AI-95 and AI-98 gasoline in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Kanatbek Eshatov, head of the Kyrgyz Oil Traders Association, noting that some gas stations in the country are already experiencing a deficit. According to Eshatov, despite disruptions with high-octane gasoline, AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel remain available in sufficient quantities.
In response to the situation, the Kyrgyz government has decided to introduce state regulation of fuel prices and implement support for importers to stabilize supply. According to information provided by The Moscow Times, the country’s production of automotive gasoline reached 129.243 thousand tons, and diesel fuel – 118.208 thousand tons in the first five months of 2026.
Russia, which has been facing a fuel crisis since the end of May, has supplied Kyrgyzstan with over 251 thousand tons of automotive gasoline for the same period. However, to address its own fuel shortages, Moscow is already reaching out to other suppliers, including Belarus and Kazakhstan, and is considering imports from India.
