The French authorities urged Vladimir Putin to abandon his imperial ambitions as a condition for peace in Ukraine. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasizes that the continuation of the war will lead to new sanctions against Russia.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed the opinion that Russia faces significant losses on the front, which forces Vladimir Putin to seriously consider the terms of peace. Barrot stressed that to achieve peace, Putin must renounce attempts to restore the empire, particularly his aggression towards Ukraine.
Speaking in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Barrot noted that the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Paris in early December is important for advancing negotiations. The minister also emphasized that if Moscow rejects the peace plan agreed upon at the Geneva talks, Russia risks facing new European sanctions.
The French politician highlighted the lack of significant achievements by the Russian army in Ukraine, although Russian propaganda tries to create a different impression. Barrot noted that the advance of Russian troops is accompanied by enormous human losses, with more than 1,000 Russian soldiers dying every day on the front.
It is worth noting that President Zelensky announced peace talks with the United States on November 30, and the Ukrainian delegation has already departed for America.
