Kazakhstan Protests Against Attacks on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has expressed protest over an attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium that occurred at the port of Novorossiysk. This event may affect bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
On November 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan condemned the attack on the critical infrastructure of the international Caspian Pipeline Consortium. The official statement mentions that this incident harms the bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and it expressed the expectation that the Ukrainian side will take the necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Aibek Smadiyarov, described this attack as the third deliberate act of aggression against a purely civilian facility. Kazakhstan emphasized its role as a responsible participant in the global energy market, advocating for the preservation of the resilience and uninterrupted supply of energy resources. It is particularly emphasized that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) plays an important role in maintaining the stability of the global energy system.
Earlier, on November 29, the CPC ceased its operations due to the loss of one of the berths following drone attacks. This terminal is responsible for handling over 1% of the world’s oil. Let us recall that CPC is an international oil transportation company established in 1992 with the purpose of constructing and operating the Caspian main oil pipeline extending over 1,500 km. Most of the oil comes from the fields of western Kazakhstan.
Furthermore, on November 18, it was reported that already the fifth Russian oil refinery had halted its operations following drone attacks that have persisted since the beginning of November. Recently, on the night of November 29, another facility, the Afipsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar region of Russia, was hit by drones, as later confirmed by the General Staff.
