Trump and Xi Jinping discussed a wide range of issues during a phone call
US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with China’s leader Xi Jinping, during which a number of important issues were discussed, including the situation in Ukraine.
Donald Trump shared about his latest phone call with Xi Jinping on the social network Truth Social, noting that they covered topics such as the Russia-Ukraine war, issues of agricultural production and export, like soybeans, as well as the fentanyl problem. However, Trump did not disclose details of the discussion on the Russia-Ukraine war. Meanwhile, China’s state agency Xinhua published a statement in which Ukraine and Russia were not mentioned; instead, one paragraph was dedicated to the Taiwan issue, which Xi Jinping discussed with Trump, emphasizing the necessity to return the island under the control of the PRC.
It is also emphasized that during the conversation a “beneficial and very important agreement” for American farmers was reached. The leaders noted that relations between their countries remain strong. Trump hinted at the continuation of the successful meeting that took place three weeks ago in South Korea, highlighting progress in adhering to existing agreements. During the conversation, Xi Jinping invited Trump to Beijing in April 2026, and Trump agreed to the visit, in turn inviting the Chinese leader to the US later that year.
Prior to the call, talks took place between Ukraine and the US in Switzerland concerning the peace plan, underscoring the importance of international efforts in resolving the conflict.
