Zelensky proposed deploying troops on the border with Belarus until a peace agreement is reached.

Ukraine is discussing with France and the United Kingdom the possibility of sending troops to patrol the border with Belarus. This step might allow Ukrainian units to focus on the front line.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed in an interview with The Guardian that he had approached the leaders of France and the United Kingdom with a proposal to deploy their troops after a ceasefire or peace agreement is reached. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine is interested in such support today to simplify defense tasks. Zelensky mentioned that such initiatives are being considered cautiously, fearing a negative reaction from the citizens of France and the United Kingdom.

According to the president, he cannot risk losing financial and military aid from the partners. In January 2025, Zelensky stated that after the conflict ends, Ukraine will need at least 200,000 peacekeepers from Europe as part of security guarantees. As of August 2025, according to Bloomberg, about 10 countries have expressed readiness to send their troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire to be stationed away from the front line.
