Viktor Yushchenko urged the USA to act responsibly, as “dozens of nations have put their trust in US policy.”

Yushchenko compares the US “peace plan” to the Munich Agreement of 1938

Viktor Yushchenko, the third president of Ukraine, critically assessed the proposed US “peace plan” by comparing it to the Munich Agreement of 1938. In his view, the United States must take responsibility for the nations that have trusted their policy.

In an interview with LIGA.net, Viktor Yushchenko expressed concerns about the conflict resolution plan proposed by the United States, claiming that it might repeat the mistakes of the past. Recalling the Munich Agreement, when Germany received part of Czechoslovakia in 1938, Yushchenko drew a parallel with the current situation, emphasizing that such agreements can have undesirable consequences.

Yushchenko noted that US policy convinced many nations to choose freedom and democracy, and therefore the US is obliged to remain faithful to its commitments to those who adopted their strategy. He reminded that the Ukrainian people, being one of the founding members of the UN and the first country to renounce nuclear weapons, expect a corresponding response from the guarantor countries, including the US.

The proposed “peace plan,” which includes renouncing Donbas and reducing Ukraine’s armed forces, has caused significant discontent in Ukraine and Europe. On November 23, dozens of politicians addressed the Trump administration with a warning about the inadmissibility of “appeasing the aggressor.”

Yushchenko expressed confidence that Ukraine would not accept the conditions of the “peace plan,” considering it a potentially shameful page in the history of Western diplomacy. These sentiments are shared by other European leaders, urging not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
