Imports of electric generators and electrical converters to Ukraine decreased by one-third compared to the previous year. At the same time, imports of electric motors and batteries increased several times.
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in May 2026, the import of generator installations decreased by 46% compared to May 2025. Although these figures show an overall decline, there was a noticeable increase of $62.4 million compared to April 2026. During the period from January to May of this year, imports of this equipment amounted to $421.7 million, which is 33.3% less than last year. Most of the generators and converters were supplied from the Czech Republic, China, and Turkey, whereas last year the Czech Republic, Austria, and the USA dominated. The export of generators remained at a low level – $2.3 million, mainly to Latvia.
Imports of electric motors and generators increased 2.4 times, reaching $486.6 million during the first five months of 2026. China remains the main supplier of this equipment, providing 93% of imports. As for electric batteries and separators, their import increased by 3.8 times, reaching $1.47 billion, with 89.3% of supplies again coming from China. However, purchases from the Czech Republic and Latvia also increased.
Let us remind you that on June 1, Ukraine launched a state program to support distributed generation projects. This could stimulate further increases in the import of generating equipment and create new opportunities for the development of the energy sector.
