Polish law enforcement identified two suspects in the railway sabotage on November 16. Both men are Ukrainian citizens, noted Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, reports The Guardian.
The design and continuous security of critical infrastructure is an important issue for Poland, especially in the context of current security threats in Europe. The sabotage of railway tracks can have serious economic consequences, particularly for logistical processes that are critical for the country’s economy.
It is noteworthy that this is the first case where information appeared in the media about the connection of foreign citizens with such incidents in Poland. Experts believe that this case may cause additional distrust in Polish-Ukrainian relations, although both sides are interested in maintaining good relations.
At the moment, investigators are determining the possible motives and details of the suspects’ involvement in the sabotage. Poland continues to work with its European partners to prevent similar incidents in the future.
