NYT: To secure a swift peace agreement, Driscoll warned Europe about Russia’s missile buildup

The US warns Europe about Russia’s missile buildup posing a potential threat

The US Army Minister Dan Driscoll warns European allies about Russia’s missile arsenal buildup, which may pose a threat not only to Ukraine but to all of Europe. American officials urge a swift resolution to the conflict.

The New York Times reports that Driscoll made this statement during a meeting with Western diplomats in Kyiv, focusing on the potential threat from Moscow. The recent US “peace plan” for Ukraine is critiqued as a way to accelerate deals that are unfavorable to Kyiv. Such statements about missile buildup may be part of efforts to promote this plan.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence and analysts, it is confirmed that Russia has increased its production capacity, accumulating up to 2900 missiles per year. Among them are “Iskanders,” “Kinzhal,” and “Kalibr” missiles. These developments could be used for attacks on strategically important targets such as Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, creating vulnerabilities in Kyiv’s defense.

It is stated that the situation has prompted Western officials to consider the seriousness of the threat, and their response has been positive. Nevertheless, attempts to balance the approach continue to guide the parties towards a more advantageous peace agreement. Meanwhile, the US President has requested his administration to work with Russia and Ukraine to achieve progress in negotiations.

The Russian side, in turn, continues to build up its armed forces, which raises concerns among Western powers. The increased missile production may also question the security of other European countries within the range of these weapons.

Types of Missiles Annual Quantity
“Iskander” 1200
“Kinzhal” 900
“Kalibr” 800
