At the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, NATO Secretary-General Rutte is expected to attend.
The virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group scheduled for December 16 will take place with the participation of NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. This is reported on the official NATO website.
At the last meeting, which took place on October 15, Ukraine and its partners agreed to fund the PURL program with a minimum of $422 million. The program involves the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine. New contributions for purchasing products from the Ukrainian defense industry amounting to $715 million were also announced.
It is expected that further steps to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability and a possible increase in military aid will be discussed at the upcoming meeting. President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine expects to receive weapons worth $15-16 billion within the framework of the PURL program by 2026.
The contact group is formed to coordinate efforts to support Ukraine’s defense in the face of growing challenges. Meeting participants discuss not only arms supplies and financial support but also readiness to train Ukrainian military personnel to enhance their combat capability. Thanks to these efforts, prompt and effective responses to new threats are ensured.
