Ukraine increases export of frozen berries despite a decline in nut volumes
The export of frozen berries from Ukraine continues to grow, while markets for walnuts show a decline due to market challenges. This is evidenced by data from the berry and nut sector study presented at the Kyiv forum “Development of Ukraine’s Berry and Nut Export Sector”.
According to Olga Gvozdova, advisor to the director of the State Institution “Office for Entrepreneurship and Export Development”, over the last two years, the export of frozen berries such as raspberries and blackberries has grown significantly. Its value increased from $53.4 million in 2023 to $114.6 million in 2024, and it is forecasted to reach $176.4 million in 2025. The main sales markets remain stable: Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, and France.
At the same time, the export of fresh berries like blueberries, bilberries, and cranberries, after significant growth from $16.8 million in 2023 to $27.9 million in 2024, decreased to $22.4 million in 2025. The main buyers remain the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Moldova. The export figures for shelled walnuts also changed, falling from $82 million in 2024 to $61.9 million in 2025. France and the Netherlands remain among the largest importers of this product.
Export of in-shell walnuts also decreased, from $8.6 million in 2024 to $5.5 million in 2025. Most of the in-shell walnuts are exported to Iraq. Unavoidable difficulties such as high production costs and electricity supply issues have affected the volumes of frozen products, but the positive dynamics in frozen berries export indicate a partial market recovery.
