French law enforcement conducted searches at the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Svyatoslav Piskun’s residence, which could form the basis for his detention. This was reported by Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the SBI, the French law enforcement acted at their request, and the searches were conducted as part of the investigation into the possible receipt of undue benefits by Piskun. The investigation in Ukraine also involves the well-known Ukrainian businessman Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who is suspected of ordering an attack on a lawyer in 2003.
At that time, lawyer Serhiy Karpenko became a victim of an attempt, for which the perpetrators are currently serving a prison sentence. It is expected that the French side may detain Piskun based on evidence found during the searches. Elected three times as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Piskun was also known as a member of parliament from the Party of Regions.
The investigation against Kolomoyskyi has again drawn attention to the long-standing corporate conflict surrounding Dniprospetsstal. The reopening of the criminal case regarding the attempt could have a significant impact on the businessman, who is already under investigation for other charges.
