Finnish president canceled a visit to the USA to participate in negotiations on Ukraine
Finnish President Alexander Stubb canceled a visit to the USA to join negotiations in Berlin on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. This was reported by the public broadcaster Yle.
Initially, Stubb planned to visit the state of Texas on December 15-16, where he was supposed to participate in several events. However, the situation in Ukraine forced him to reconsider his plans. On Monday, he will join the discussion of the peace process in Berlin. The meeting will be attended by several European leaders, as well as high representatives of the EU and NATO, as reported by the Finnish president’s office.
Stubb emphasized that the decision was made due to the “critical situation in Ukraine.” Earlier it was reported that among the participants in the negotiations would be the special envoy of the US president Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
The agenda includes the discussion of a possible peace plan proposed by the Trump administration, which includes providing Ukraine with security guarantees based on NATO’s collective security article. Part of this plan involves creating a “demilitarized zone” in Donbas with the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops.
