Ukrainian nuclear power plants complete repairs faster than planned
Repair works at Ukrainian nuclear power plants are being completed ahead of schedule, finishing on average four days earlier. This was reported by Pavlo Kovtonyuk, acting head of the board of NNEGC “Energoatom”.
At the Khmelnytsky and Rivne NPPs, some power units have already been returned to operation post-repair, while repair works are ongoing or will soon commence on other units according to the confirmed schedule. Additionally, work is being carried out at the South Ukrainian NPP, noted Pavlo Kovtonyuk. According to the official, it is important that all planned preventive repairs are being completed ahead of the schedule.
As of April 28, one of the units at the Khmelnytsky NPP has already completed its scheduled repair. It is noteworthy that the repair campaign in the nuclear generation sector is planned until October. In the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government, there are three nuclear power plants with a total of nine power units.
Earlier in March of the current year, there were reports of an increase in electricity imports due to the shutdown of one of the power units for repair. This raised concerns about the stability of power supply, as increased demand could affect the country’s energy balance.
Experts note that the acceleration of repair work is a positive signal, as it allows the capacities to be returned to operation more quickly if necessary. The increased attention to meeting repair deadlines also indicates a commitment to ensuring the stability of the country’s energy system.
| NPP | Number of Power Units | Repair Status |
| Khmelnytsky NPP | 2 | Partly returned to operation |
| Rivne NPP | 4 | Repair ongoing |
| South Ukrainian NPP | 3 | Repair ongoing |
