Attacks on Energy Infrastructure in Ukraine: New Strikes on Substations and Thermal Power Plants
Russia attempted once again to target the substations supplying the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants. As a result of the attacks, there is a power outage in the Poltava region and a partial blackout in Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on partners to exert pressure on Russia to halt attacks on nuclear energy. According to Minister Andrii Sybiha, the strikes were deliberate and calculated, posing risks of catastrophic incidents.
In the Poltava region, significant damage to energy infrastructure is being reported. According to the head of the regional military administration, Volodymyr Kohut, there are disruptions in electricity, heat, and water supply. Residents report voltage fluctuations from 200 to over 600 volts that can damage household appliances.
Relevant services are working at full capacity to restore supply. “Points of resilience” are deployed in the region in case of a prolonged blackout.
A similar situation is reported in the Kharkiv region, said OVA head Oleh Syniehubov. All “points of resilience” are operational in the region, and the population is urged to conserve electricity. In Kharkiv itself, partial blackouts and voltage fluctuations are observed, which the authorities have not yet commented on.
During the night attacks on November 8, “Centrenergo” completely stopped electricity generation. The Russian side also attacked a Smart Energy gas extraction facility, resulting in the death of a worker.
Energy facilities in five regions came under shelling, leading to longer power outages. In the evening, information emerged about a strike on a DTEK thermal power station, whose equipment suffered significant damage.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that the energy system has been stabilized, but outages are necessary for further repairs.
