Americans were invited to extremely important peace plan talks in Berlin, Merz stated.

Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz invited the USA to an important meeting on the truce in Ukraine

Germany has invited the United States to join an important meeting to be held in Berlin at the beginning of the third week of December regarding a potential truce in the conflict in Ukraine. This occurred in the context of talks that Chancellor Friedrich Merz held with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on December 11.

The meeting, which is set to bring together key European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aims to align positions on rapidly evolving peace efforts. However, Merz stated that US participation in this meeting would depend on the progress in the negotiations over the weekend of December 13-14 between the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Ukraine, and the USA.

European leaders, in particular, sent proposals to Washington on the evening of December 10 regarding potential territorial arrangements, emphasizing possible compromises from Ukraine. According to the German Chancellor, the question of what territorial concessions Ukraine is willing to make remains pivotal.

While some observers express concerns that Washington’s proposals may favor Russia, Merz emphasized that only Ukraine and its society can determine acceptable compromises. At the same time, he stressed that any truce must be accompanied by reliable guarantees to prevent possible new attacks from Russia.

Merz also noted that Europe’s security interests must be included in any agreement, emphasizing the willingness to cooperate with US President Donald Trump, who after a phone call expressed a desire to discuss the Ukrainian issue with European partners.
