A ceasefire in Ukraine and peace negotiations are unlikely until spring – President of Finland

Finnish President Urges Europe to Continue Supporting Ukraine Despite Scandals

Finnish President Alexander Stubb emphasizes the need for continued European support for Ukraine despite the internal corruption scandal known as the “Midas” case. He stated this in an interview with the Associated Press at a military base north of Helsinki.

Alexander Stubb noted that a ceasefire in Ukraine is unlikely to be achieved by spring, stressing that Europe must be prepared for a tough winter amidst hybrid attacks from Russia. He also highlighted his good relations with US President Donald Trump, which could help advance Ukrainian interests on the international stage.

“I can explain to President Trump what Finland has been through, how I see the situation on the battlefield, or how to deal with Putin. And if he accepts even one out of ten ideas, that would be beneficial,” Stubb said.

He also emphasized that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must quickly address the corruption scandal, as this situation could be exploited by Russia. Additionally, the Finnish leader urged European partners to consider increasing financial and military support for Kyiv.

The situation surrounding the ceasefire in Ukraine remains uncertain. Earlier, on October 21, Bloomberg reported that Ukraine and the EU were developing a 12-point plan to end the war. However, on November 12, it was announced that there was no progress in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
