The NSDC Secretary Denies Claims of Timur Mindich’s Influence on His Work
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, stated that the accusations of businessman Timur Mindich’s influence on his activities as a former minister are unfounded.
During a court session at the High Anti-Corruption Court, a prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office expressed suspicions that in 2025 Mindich influenced former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and Umerov in the defense sphere. In response, Umerov emphasized that his work at the Ministry of Defense was not subject to any external influence. He reported that as a minister, he regularly met with manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, but each deal was checked for compliance with regulations.
Umerov acknowledged a meeting with Mindich during which the issue of a contract for the supply of bulletproof vests was discussed. Due to non-compliance of the products with the requirements, the contract was terminated, and the supply did not take place. The NSDC Secretary also noted that he is always ready to provide information to corroborate his statements to media representatives.
The previous events unfold against the backdrop of the NABU investigation into the Energoatom corruption case. NABU authorities conducted over 70 searches related to Timur Mindich and other figures, including well-known businessmen and officials. As a result, suspicions were announced against seven individuals, some of whom have already been detained.
